I was thinking about how much water is stored in the snow, and how in many parts of the country the spring snow melt is an important way that nature replenishes the aquifers, streams, lakes, and ultimately of course the oceans. Unfortunately, many times we run into problems when too much snow melts all at once, the ground is saturated, and flooding results. It's the great Water Cycle at keeping our planet hydrated ;)
Some uses for all that snow:
- Bring some snow inside, melt it and water your houseplants.
- Bring some snow inside, melt it add some green cleaner to it, and wash down the tile floors that are now grimey from the kids tramping snowy/grimey boots in the house!
- When you run out of windshield wiper fluid, pick up a handful of snow and use it to "clean off" your windshield as well as you can. It works in a pinch. I just saw the woman in front of me in the pickup line do it!
Any other ideas? Post them here!
